Horace McCormack, of the Falls Church Rotary
Club, has assumed the volunteer post of Rotary
International District Governor for 2009-10 Rotary year.
As governor, he will coordinate the community and
international service projects of the 52 of clubs in
District 7610 in the Northern Virginia area. He assumed
office July 1, 2009 and will serve through June 30,
2010.Mr. McCormack is one of 532 Rotarians worldwide
serving as a District Governor this year. A member of
the Rotary club of Falls Church for twelve years, Horace
will also be responsible for organizing new Rotary clubs
and strengthening existing ones.
During an installation ceremony at the Fredericksburg
Golf and Country Club on June 27, 2009 he told the
audience of over 160 Rotarians and guests, "The future
of Rotary is in your hands."
He said the main goals for the district in the coming
year are to implement projects to improve local and
world literacy and health, reduce hunger, and continue
to assist efforts to provide clean water to developing
countries.
Rotary International plans to achieve its world-wide
goal of eradicating polio by raising an additional $200
million by 2012 for this effort in order to fulfill the
Bill and Melinda Gates’ Foundation $355 million
challenge grant.
